15th Annual GARDEN PARTY

Come join us in a day of frivolity as we replenish our Nationally Certified Butterfly Sanctuary. Over the 15 years, we have actively cultivated butterfly vines, fed the caterpillars, and watched them emerge from their chrysalises as butterflies of many varieties. We have now documented more than 40 species of butterflies that have passed through our Garden at The VORTEX. Celebrate with neighbors and friends of The VORTEX with a day of art, planting, live music, and renewal of the Earth. Bring a butterfly plant to add to our butterfly garden. 

There will be a brief ceremony at 2pm honoring Radius, our beloved VORTEX cat, who crossed over on January 3, 2025 after a long life at The VORTEX where he had made his home since 2008 when he was a feral kitten. 

Live Music with Roland & the Roots Riddim, Ogo and the Erph Tones, and scenes from our upcoming world premiere musical dance theatre production of MotherTree. 

Opportunities for plantings and education. Kids will love Tiny Tails to You Petting Zoo. Arts and crafts provide hands-on opportunities for people to create their own butterfly-inspired artworks. The Butterfly Bar serves Garden inspired cocktails.

Donations of butterfly-friendly plants are much appreciated. These native plants would be great additions to the sanctuary: Milkweed, Milkweed, Milkweed (for the Monarchs), Shrimp Plant, Verbena, Frogfruit, Gregg’s Mistflower, Yarrow, Zinnia, and Snap Dragon.  Other plants that folks could also bring include Passion Vine, Coral Honey Suckle, Alamo Vine, Spicebush, Lantana, Sunflower, Flame Acanthus, Fire Bush, Bottlebrush, Bluebonnet, Indian Paintbrush, Salvia, Purple Coneflower, Turk’s Cap, Yucca (twist-leaf).  

Pottery, potting soil, mulch, & compost are much appreciated donations.

All ticket sales are final. However, we can exchange your tickets for a different night or a different performance, for a $3 fee, depending on availability. We do not sell your private data.
