SEASON 35 | December 2022

consolation of chaos
A multidisciplinary performancE

Presented by Corps Multiple & The VORTEX
Choreography by Sandie Donzica
Live Music by Key Hole
Videography/Editing by Justine Spinoza & Heath McMurtry

Film, music, and dance intersect in reflection as the dancer meets the different parts of herself, virtually and physically. December 8-10, 8pm.

A journey on self-discovery, cycles of birth and meaning of the self. We dive into a deep personal human journey, in search of development, meaning, blossoming; offering a perspective on our conceptions of self, growth and purpose. On screen, a birth... then solace. Shift from an introspective, calm, meditative experience to a performative, present, powerful, intriguing one. These two atmospheres will then meet on stage in a chaos of sounds, thoughts, emotions... the two sides of the dancer on screen meet in reality. Together, they will reach their completion, well... maybe?

With dancers Sarah Jack and Sandie Donzica, musicians Heather Barfield and Kevin Welch. Videography/Editing by Justine Spinoza and Heath McMurtry. Dancer on video: Rachael Hanlon. Main recorded music composed by Jan Margolius. Light designer: J Mwaki. Sound Engineer: David Demaris. Stage Manager: Katie Hamilton. Assistant Stage Manager: Lena Alexander.

Videographer: Essam Ossman. Performed at REST Fest 2022 (www.restfest.xyz)

ABOUT THE CREATION PROCESS
The process started virtually during the pandemic and resulted in the creation of a solo SOLACE, which will be projected during the show. Solace was choreographed by Sandie Donzica and danced by Rachael Hanlon, filmed and edited by Heath McMurtry. Main musical composition by Jan Margolius (UK). This work was created during the heart of the pandemic in 2020, as part of the Articulate Program. Sandie Donzica transmitted her solo Blossoming to dancer Rachael Hanlon and furthered the reflection around it. As confinement redefined a lot of values and habits for everyone, they explored the questions: “How can we blossom?”/”Can we even be blossoming?”/”Do we have to blossom?”. Rehearsals were done via Zoom, long phone calls were also implemented to deepen the research around Blossoming and Corps Multiple has redirected the work towards a virtual performance, at the intersection of film and performance.
