An evening of staged readings to benefit Ukraine
August 20th and 21st, 2022
Presented by The VORTEX, La Fenice, Crown Theatre, and Tooth & Claw.
For two evenings, August 20th and 21st, 2022, The VORTEX, La Fenice, Crown Theatre, and Tooth & Claw present staged readings by Ukrainian playwrights with all proceeds benefitting Voices of Children, a nonprofit giving psychological and psychosocial support to children and mothers affected by the war in Ukraine. The playwrights have waived fees for this production and all the artists involved are donating their time to support this cause.
Programming for this presentation of staged readings includes:
A Dictionary of Emotions in Time of War (Parts I and II) by Elena Astaseva (translated by John Freedman), directed by Kate Meehan of La Fenice and featuring Adam Rodriguez, Kelsey Smith, Nola Lafayette, and Tobie Minor. This play was commissioned by Philip Arnoult's Center for International Theatre Development.
The Russian Soldier by Ihor Bilyts (translated by John Freedman), directed by Andrea Smith of Crown Theatre and featuring Samuel Grimes, Kate Meehan, and Melissa Vogt.
Metrosexuals by Tetyana Kytsenko (translated by John Freedman), directed by Nola Lafayette of Tooth & Claw and featuring Leo Chavez. US English Language premiere!
Performance space provided by The VORTEX. The B. Iden Payne Committee is underwriting all printing costs and box office fees for this production.
