Self Portraits: VORTEX Edition!
August 14-16, 2020

The VORTEX + Bottle Alley Theatre Company

Self Portraits, Bottle Alley's open canvas for experimentation, is self-expression and honesty. Performed live in 2014 and 2018, Self Portraits: Vortex Edition is the successor to Self Portraits 2.5, a digital version of the same show. This new iteration is written, filmed, and performed in isolation with collaborators from both Bottle Alley as well as The VORTEX. Viewers of Self Portraits: Vortex Edition can expect the same level of anarchy and honesty as Bottle Alley's live performances, experienced from the safety of your own home.

Self Portraits: Vortex Edition features pieces written, filmed, and performed by: Emily Rankin, Corinna Browning, Liz Waters, Abigail Lucas, Cassidy Timms, Rachel Holderbach, Justin West, Cici Sanchez, Santiago Facundo III, Paige Teryn Breese, Amber Wilson, Charisa Teinert, Amber Shantel Hales, Mick Primmer, Rachael Shaw McNeil, Mary Catherine, Amanda Brenham Perales, Kim Gifford, Danielle Bondurant, and Brittanie Esty.

How it works:

After you buy your ticket you will get a confirmation email. We will send the private link to each ticket holder at Midnight the day of the performance, and that link is good for 24 hours. For example, if you buy a ticket for August 14th, your link will be good from 12am - 11:59pm. You can watch the individual self portraits as many times as you like in that 24 hour period before the link expires.

“Bottle Alley Theatre Company exemplifies the experimental spirit that is at the root of The VORTEX’s artistic work. We are excited to collaborate with them on this show and beyond as we reimagine the frontier of what theatre can and will be in the future.”
— – Melissa Vogt, Managing Director, The VORTEX
“We could not sit idly by and watch as another venue closed down during this pandemic. We need more venues like The VORTEX, not less of them. We thought that there was something more we could do to help an institution in our community, and this collaboration is the result. This collaboration really is a dream come true for us. Many of Bottle Alley’s rehearsals would end up at The VORTEX, drinking sangria and eating Italian food to all hours of the night. This place is special for us and we don’t want to one day look at the space where The VORTEX used to be and think about all the good memories we had there but rather want to make new memories there as soon as we can.”
—  - Chris Fontanes, Producing Artistic Director, Bottle Alley Theatre Company

The VORTEX is funded and supported in part by Bloomberg Philanthropies, a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department, and by individuals like you.
