The time is now! With every Human Rights’ victory, there have been massive failures. Systemic white supremacy and the toxic grip of the patriarchy mar every movement for equality and social change including women’s suffrage, civil rights, women’s lib, LGBTQ rights, and environmental activism. Mounting atrocities include verbal and physical assaults on women of color, lack of child care and child support, denial of women’s reproductive rights, wage discrimination, rising murders of black trans women, and growing climate and migration crises. While we have the ability to create transformation, systemic oppression and violence against people of global majority, women, and non-binary folks, continue to rise.
We choose to produce work at The VORTEX that is an integral part of the conversation. We remember the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, and we examine how far we have yet to go in created a just, equitable, life-sustaining civilization. In 2019-2020, The VORTEX’s 32nd Season of Fearless Theatre honors women’s bodies and voices on The Eloise Stage and encourages everyone to vote in the 2020 elections.
