SEASON 24 | APRIL 2012
A twisted nursery rhyme spectacle
Story by Melissa Vogt
Directed by Bonnie Cullum
Presented by ethos in association with The VORTEX
General Humpty got cracked on the head during the War, and now he is behaving very badly.
The story delves deeper into the simple tale on the surface of the nursery rhyme, uncovering a story of Civil War, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, slavery, and the disparity of wealth and poverty. Betrayal, magical armies, and mortal combat ensue as the characters fight for their lives, loves, and freedom. :Humpty defies expectation as the audience peers into a mix of live action, music, video, movement, and gossip.
Loosely based on the nursery rhyme characters Humpty Dumpty, The Spoon, The Dish, The Cow, The Dog, and The Moon, ethos offers up a dark tale with adult aesthetics (not appropriate for children). Funny and disgusting, charming and startling, :Humpty features an all-star cast presenting an extraordinary and unconventional performance.
Mick D’arcy, Betsy McCann, Jonathan Itchon, Gabriel Maldonado, Justin LaVergne, Melissa Vogt, and Jennifer Coy.
Directed by Bonnie Cullum. Original Music by Chad Salvata. Scenic Design by Ann Marie Gordon. Lighting Design by Jason Amato. Costume Design by Melissa Vogt. Sound and Video Design by Sergio R. Samayoa. Production Photography by Errich Peterson.
