"I Look Like An Egg, but I Identify As A Cookie"
&"The Law Project"
written & Performed by Heather Gold
SxSW Festival Production
Heather Gold returns to the VORTEX for two different solo-performances in conjunction with SxSW Interactive. Gold, a San Francisco-based actor/writer/comedienne (and law student) has been seen in Austin before, both at The VORTEX, and as the host of Austin Gay Pride. After attending Yale and Northwestern Law, Gold turned her studies to theater and improvisation. Her smart, intimate, and energetic performance style has earned both her and her work national recognition and numerous awards.
Monday, March 13, for one night only, straight from its Off-Broadway premiere, Heather Gold performs her hit piece "I Look Like An Egg, but I Identify As A Cookie." In Cookie, which played to sold out houses at The VORTEX in 2003, Gold explores identity and sexuality with plenty of social and political commentary thrown in, all while baking cookies. That's right! Baking cookies, which the audience inevitably gets to sample. After playing for over a year in San Francisco, Cookie was named Best of the Bay by The Oakland Tribune and received Curve Magazine's National Lesbian Theatre Award. Hilarious, insightful, and personal, "I Look Like An Egg, but Identify As A Cookie" combines scripted elements with extemporaneous comedy, and is never the same twice. So come enjoy it again, or for the very first time!
Tuesday March 14, for one night only, is Gold's brand new piece, The Law Project. In this one-woman show, Gold begs the questions "Is the law what holds this country together?" Combining her unused law degree with dead-on comic timing, Gold guides the audience through her experiences in law school. The Law Project is an interactive theater piece, which invites the audience to share their ideas with Gold, making it an intellectual experience for both performer and patron. This Austin performance is the first outside of San Francisco.
Heather Gold uses humor, storytelling, and audience participation to create an intimate community in which to explore universal subjects, promoting connection and inclusion with her viewers. Don't miss out on this unique and award-winning experience!
