Coriolanus
by William Shakespeare | Presented by VORTEX Repertory Company
The VORTEX Repertory Company presents William Shakespeare’s seldom-produced tragedy, Coriolanus, adapted and directed by Lorella Loftus.
The VORTEX has often produced classic works with original twists. Non-traditional casting, futuristic settings, lavish costumes, and a concise cutting of the text create an exciting and contemporary production of this action-packed literary treasure, Coriolanus.
Coriolanus is the story of Roman patrician and warrior, Caius Marcius, named Coriolanus for his single-handed conquest of the Volscian city of Corioli. Marcius is the archetypal over-reacher, a man of contradictions who battles constantly with the enemies of Rome, his own class, his mother, and his inner demons.
Thirteen-year VORTEX-veteran actor Matthew Patterson makes a final
appearance on The VORTEX stage as Coriolanus before relocating to
London. Since 1990, Patterson has received numerous awards and nominations
for his VORTEX work. He has starred in dozens of VORTEX
productions including Shopping & Fucking, The Deluge, Dickens’
A Tale of Two Cities, The Pitchfork Disney, Machinal, Beirut, The
Baltimore Waltz, King Lear.
