The Music of Erica Zann A modern opera
based on H.P. Lovecraft¹s short story

| Presented by VORTEX

The Music of Erica ZannB. Iden Payne and Critics’ Table Awards Nominations: Director, Musical: Bonnie Cullum; Actor, Musical: E. Dale Smith' Supporting Actor, Musical: Scott Swanson' Original Score: Mick D'arcy & Edmund Pantuliano

VORTEX presents the world premiere of a new modern opera based on a 1921 short story by H.P. Lovecraft: The Music of Erica Zann. This dark tale from the void tackles contemporary themes of disconnection, addiction, and obsession, creating a dynamic medium for modern opera. Music and spectacle transport the audience toward the mystery of the unknowable chaos.

Pulp horror writer of the 20's and 30's whose circle of contemporaries included Robert E. Howard (Conan) and Robert Bloch (Psycho). Lovecraft is sometimes called the father of contemporary horror. He influenced numerous authors including Stephen King, Clive Barker, Brian Lumley, and Dean R. Koontz. Lovecraft wrote tales that involved struggles with ancient and alien evils that could only ultimately be survived through insanity.

Featuring: E. Dale Smith as WILLIAM, Scott Swanson as BLANDOT, the character of Erica Zann: Sandy Blue (Soprano) and Mariam Hembrook (Violinist)

Directed by Bonnie Cullum; Scenic design by Ann Marie Gordon; Lighting Design by Jennifer Rogers; Costume Design by Kari Perkins; Piano arrangements by Alex Krigsfeld; Adaptation by Mick D'arcy(Lyrics) and Edmund Pantuliano (Music)
