SEASON 14 ARCHIVE | January 2002

Dark Goddess '02
Conceived and Directed by Bonnie Cullum; Musical Direction by Content Love Knowles
Presented by VORTEX
Winner of the B. Iden Payne Award for Costume Design: Kari Perkins

They are back and they are darker than ever. In this all-new theatre ritual, Dark Goddess 2002, VORTEX Producing Artistic Director, Bonnie Cullum, teams up with 13 priestesses and 13 goddesses to create a brand new piece of ritual theatre, similar in genre, but entirely different in content than the previous two productions of Dark Goddess. Running only 13 performances, Dark Goddess 2002 will be weaving a larger spell to which they will add each night, uniting the facets of Dark Goddess into one greater working.

The stunning gathering of goddesses in Dark Goddess 2002 includes new insights from Hekate, Pele, Lilith, and Kali, as well as first time appearances by Rhiannon, Medusa, Sekhmet, Ala, Sedna, Mare, The Morrigu, Spider Woman, and Mummu Tiamat.

Live original music, dance, and text blend to bring forth the essence of each goddess. In a ritual setting, these dark Goddesses remember promises, create challenges, confront fear, conjure dream, celebrate sex, and embrace death. These goddesses manifest as seers and advisors in a time of world crisis.
